The historic proximity to the Western Trail is symbolic as Vernon is centrally located in the North Texas, Southwestern Oklahoma region of the United States. Vernon is approximately half-way between Amarillo and the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex on U.S. 287 (a limited access, four-lane highway).
